Holy Crap

December 15, 2006

Wow, I completely forgot I even started this blog. Its pretty stupid.

Almost two months since my last post, but I’ll try to turn this into a genuine blog.

Well, I just bought the MacHeist bundle, but haven’t really played around with many of the apps thus far. Between MacHeist and MacAppADay, I have gotten more free shareware in the past few weeks than I can chew, including three separate clipboard managers! I gave up on that browser test a while back, so now I want to do a comparrison of those three apps.

I also started working on an app called “Mobilizer” but thats all I’m giving away at the moment. As soon as I can get a working build completed, I’m going to post it and pimp the hell out of it

With my MH bundle, I got RapidWeaver, so I plan on building a site for it to sell it. $5 a pop sounds like a reasonable price, but I might end up doing freeware. Don’t know for sure yet, but it’ll be a while before I finish it.

Updates

October 26, 2006

While preparing for my browser tests, I found this site that does a smashing job at benchmarking the speeds of the browsers. Therefore I will not attempt to do this myself, since they were already up to date with all the latest browser versions. Good job to whoever put this together: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html

I will instead still compare memory usage, but will focus more on the usefulness and features of each. Expect the full review within a week.

On another note, I am the manager for a computer training lab. I just overheard a trainer on the phone with her company’s tech support (she didn’t even bother to ask me for help) say “How come I can connect to my wireless network when I’m at home, but nowhere else?” Wow…just…wow…

Mac Browser

October 24, 2006

I have been tossing between different browsers as of late, trying to decide which to stick with. I was a Firefox man back in the day, but switched to Camino. Well, Camino has seen very little update in the past year, so I’m thinking about switching back to Firefox with the release of 2.0. I figure why stop there, so I will be posting a thorough comparison of all the major browsers:

-Firefox 2.0
-Camino 1.0.3
-Camino 1.1 (alpha)
-Safari 2.0.4 (10.4)
-Opera 9.0.2

These conditions will be tested on a few different computers under different conditions, to get a broader spectrum of results.

The conditions are as follows:

-Mac OS X 10.4.8 with all updates installed
-PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz with 512 MB RAM
-PowerMac Dual G4 1.25 GHz with 1.5 GB RAM
-MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.16 GHz with 1 GB RAM

The PowerBook is in a fresh install state, but the others are regular use machines that I use every day.

I plan to cover:

-Memory usage (idle and under heavy use)
-CPU Usage (idle and under heavy use)
-Approximate load time
-Standards compliance
-Real world features (not the useless niche ones that I don’t care about)

I’ll be back with my full analysis soon!

So, its come to this…

October 24, 2006

Its approaching one o’clock in the morning, and I have to wake up for work in 5 1/2 hours.

I can’t sleep, as usual. Its not that I can’t sleep, its that my brain is so busy and bored throughout the day, that late at night is the only free time I have, so my brain want to do stuff, not sleep. Its a terrible cylcle!

Anyway, so this blog will primarily be about lots of tech stuff and the crap I run into in my every day life. I know the world doesn’t need yet another mac-oriented blog, so I’ll try and fray from that, but it won’t stop me from sharing my thoughts if that should be the topic.

I don’t count that first post as a real post, it was just a test run, so I guess this is my first official real genuine solid non-test real McCoy post.

Hello world!
